The Newest addition to our family

We call him "Oh Great One". We got it as an early Christmas gift from Ryan's dad and stepmom. They just got a new plasma screen and decided to pawn their old TV off on us. Not that it took much arm twisting at all. Personally I never was into why a tv need be more than 27 inches myself but when I saw Christian Bale on a 53 inch screen I understood what all the hoopla is about.
We actually we were getting it for about a month but had to arrange some way of getting out to Carleton Place to pick it up. Ryan got leave on Thursday night this week so he and a buddy went and rented a van (which could barely hold the thing) and went out to pick it up. So I walked in the door from work on Friday to this beast of a TV taking up my entire livingroom. It's actually not a bad looking set it just looks huge in our house. We need to get a bigger house just to accomodate our tv set! Not only that but there's only one way of setting up our couch and tv due to the cable hookup so we are watching this thing literally six feet away from our faces. I can even see the whole screen in my scope of vision! I am getting used to it though. One of the first things I want to do is get Laura-Line over here to play SuperMario Bros 3 and play the Giant world. Mario is going to look huge!!!!!!!

Anyway so that's the news in the Macdonald/Jones household for this weekend. Not much else happening. Watched movies Friday, went out to the pub with some of Ryan's army dudes last night and lounged and ate ice cream today. Got my business cards from work already but they spelled my name with a big d and also used my maiden name so I have to reorder.Overallsatisfying weekend. Here's Ryan's army pic too!

The Perfect Date

It's not very often that we go out. If and when we do, we usually find ourselves at the same table at the Oak having more than our share of pitchers, debating over the same taboo subjects and stumbling into a cab. Same old same old.

After harassing Ryan for a good week on the importance of romance in a relationship we decided to go out for one of those expensive dates where you actually put on some nice clothes to celebrate our sixth month of marital bliss. (Yes folks we made it! According to Sean there's only 14 years and 6 months left on the lease!)

Well the date had a rough go when I realized that my little black dress is just a bit to "little". I have come to the conclusion that I showed enough cleavage at the wedding to last a lifetime so I nixed the little black dress. So there was the typical drama of me stomping around the house whining that I had nothing to wear and after several prototype outfits, I threw together a nice ensemble and we were on our way.

Dinner at Papagus proved to us that we should really start making reservations before hand. Not that the wait was long but the table was hardly intimate. Oh well it still wasn't a booth at Denny's so we took it. We actually had an intimate conversation and drank some wine. The food was great and we left replete after spending the last half an hour watching this young couple go through what looked like the most uncomfortable first date. It was quite amusing. They could have used some wine themselves!

We headed to Pub Italia next where we sampled the beer bible and made friends with this drunk girl. She was rather entertaining with her frenglish. I couldn't believe the bar tender actually remembered me after two years. I just couldn't believe he was still there. It's really the nicest pub in Ottawa. Ryan is sticking with his Oak. The ever faithful pubgoer he is.

The comedy club was brilliant and we had great seats too. Laughed our butts off especially at the relationship jokes which we can now perfectly relate too and find the humour too. They even had a scottish guy up there cracking jokes. (We found out later that he wasn't scottish and were rather disapointed). Caught a cab and went home. All in all it was a night that was spent with just the two of us and was thoroughly enjoyable. No squabbles, no conflict of opinions. It was nice. It was perfect.

The Family Reunion 2006

Well I guess it makes the most sense to go in chronological order of things.
Friday- Hop in the car in Ottawa and drive the usually 3 hour trip which lasted 4.5 hours to the 'Burg. Arrived shortly after 7pm watched some tube with Mom and passed out. Had I realized it was the last sleep I was going to get between Friday and Monday I would have went to bed earlier.

Saturday- Get up super early have a bath make myself presentable. Had I have known it was the last shower I was going to get between Saturday and Monday I would have washed my hair. Dad picks me up and off we go to the most picturesque place I have ever seen (UK excluded). Beautiful colours and amazing scenery. There was a teepee too! Soon the family arrives, clan by clan we filled the backyard with trailers. Then I saw it. Kelly the pig on a scewer. Took forever to cook him but he sure was yummy and the whole backyard smelled like bacon. I learned how to play bocci ball which is actually fairly easy when you're not tossing directly into the sunlight. Had my first drink around 4ish. Now had I been to more family functions and known that everyone else had lots I would have brought more booze. Regardless we all reaquainted ourselves after a year or so and settled into a weekend on the farm. Here's the pics from Saturday night.
Okay the pics aren't loading could someone help me with this please.
There are more coming so just be patient please!

Reality sinks in...

I got a call from Ryan today and he was in the hospital. He apparently has a hernia and needs surgery but they are going to wait until he finishes his training. I know it's nothing big but I just remember how I felt when I got the call. It literally scared me soo bad that I froze on the spot and my heart skipped a beat. I know that he can't hurt himself too bad just from his training but it just made me start thinking about the what if's. He was more worried about discoursing than his injury. I can see why after he's half way through and having to start all over again would suck.I had more sympathy today for all the other family members out there who's spouses, sons or daughters are overseas and have no idea what's going on most of the time. I feel stupid for feeling sorry for myself. I'm lucky I hear from him almost everyday. I know that it sounds so stupid to think like this. But I wish there wasn't need for military, I wish that people could just pull their heads out of their asses so that people would stop dying and getting hurt. Today was just a wake up call to the reality that millions of other people live with everyday army or not. It hurts to have to worry so much about someone and my pain is so minor compared to others. Even though I don't support the mission I think I have a deeper appreciation for what the soldiers and their families go through everyday. I support them.
