Yes..I know it's been awhile.

Since it's been so nicely pointed out that I haven't blogged in quite in awhile, I've decided to update you all on how life has been going.

Not much going on here. It's been a quiet couple of months. Ryan and I were asked to be Godparents for Jonas' christening. It was quite an honour and as much as Ryan wasn't able to make it, it was nice to see the boys again.
I passed my six month probation at my job so that was nice to hear.
I am now officially addicited to playing Civilization IV. It's taken over my life and it's evil evil evil. I am now eat, sleep and breathing taking over the world. Everyone told me to pick up a hobby when Ryan left but I'm not quite sure if this is what they had in mind.
Until I have something more entertaining to tell you all, I will end this post.

PS I am also addicted to Facebook.

Chase the winter blues away festivus weekend!

So we decided to get rid of the post holiday rut depression that everyone find themselves in this time of year. Laura-Line joined us early on Saturday to start the festivities at The Royal Oak and we sampled from the Robbie Burns menu. Mmmmm cock-a-leekie soup! Then we were off to the Museum of Nature which is still somewhat under renovations until 2009 even though they have been working on the place since I arrived back in '02. We only took an hour to go through the whole place but it was still fun. The dinosaurs and the mammal exhibits were the best although I was disapointed that the canadian diamond exhibit wasn't opening until the next day. I really do like sparkly things

Doesn't this one remind you of the tricerops from the Land Before Time?

Here's Lo and Ryan beside some Trexes. I didn't think it was possible that something would make Ryan look so small but there ya go.

Hmmmm..............well at least I'm not the only one that wants to bite his head off sometimes

Yay beavers!

We ended the night off at with dinner at the Prescott and then went to Yukyuks for Black Comedy night which contained some very questionable and triple X rated material. It was all and all a good day. Sunday was spent as it should be. Several cups of tea, a snuggly blanket, Ryan and I on our respective ends of the couch with some good books.

I've also included for your viewing pleasure some pictures of Christmas. Ryan and I got spoiled this year and want to thank everyone for our beautiful gifts. Ryan got me diamond earrings (yay sparklys!! Aunt Mimi I guess I don't need yours anymore!), dancing lessons (we're gonna learn how to tango or perhaps the forbidden dance the Lombada!), trivial pursuit, a good book, a conair hair designer and of course the elves brought me some fuzzy slippers and some top notch pj's!

Ryan had a little trouble with the lights so Kirsten and I took over!

So this is how I felt after 7 hours in the car!

Uncle Ryan and Jonas at my parents.

Ryan also tried to get Rudolph drunk off eggnog. It didn't work. Quel surprise.

How I love a man in uniform...

Ryan graduated from BOTC today. I drove up to St Jean to see him parade and recieve his commission. Let me tell you did 2nd Lt Ryan Jones ever look good. I'm sorry there's nothing like an officer in full dress uniform to get you going especially when there's 200 of them marching around in front of you.

I was so proud of him. He looked so handsome and so confident. It was nice to see that. It's been a long 4 months and I know he still has a year and a half to go before being posted but at least basic is over. He will be home soon for a whole two weeks I can't wait! I love you and I miss you!

Advent Calenders

Why does the chocolate have to be so bad? I went out and bought advent calenders for Ryan and I. It's been ages since I've had one. I made sure to buy two extra ones too. I always end up eating them before Christmas anyway so I thought it was best that we each had one to eat and one to use. Ryan will start his countdown on the seventh when he gets home. So I taste mine and the chocolate was so gross I had to spit it out. I don't remember the chocolate being so bad that I couldn't eat it.
I try to stay to away from sweets as much as I can being that I'm not supposed to have them and this just makes it easier. Although I must admit that my one little cheat of the day that I was looking forward to is going to be cheap disgusting chocolate. Next year I'm getting a different kind. Although I would like 25 Aunt Mimi chocolate truffles for a countdown because they are the best in the world next to Godiva. That is my mini rant for the day. Thanks.

Lest we forget

It's Rememberance Day tomorrow. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it this year. I feel melancholy. It used to be such a big deal when we were in school and we would all march out to the cenotaph and read Flanders Field and I remember feeling the same way I do now. Paying homage to faceless names from back in time where I didn't even exist. I respected the day and understood why we have it but I suppose being younger never quite realized just how important it was.
This year I think I feel different because the people I'm thinking about are people who are my friends, my family and my age. People who are still dying even though we have this day dedicated to pay honour and remember the price they paid for freedom. What bothers me is why 60 years later it's still happening and it's just as real. We now have a whole new set of veterans. It just makes me sad. It makes me cry. I think I get it now. I understand what my grandparents felt back during their war years and it must have been scarier for them.
So I will stand at the cenotaph tomorrow and I will not complain that the cold is stinging my face or that I'm getting rained on. I will stand there and I will remember for my grandparents, I will remember for my friends, I will remember for my husband and I will remember for those I don't even know.

The Newest addition to our family

We call him "Oh Great One". We got it as an early Christmas gift from Ryan's dad and stepmom. They just got a new plasma screen and decided to pawn their old TV off on us. Not that it took much arm twisting at all. Personally I never was into why a tv need be more than 27 inches myself but when I saw Christian Bale on a 53 inch screen I understood what all the hoopla is about.
We actually we were getting it for about a month but had to arrange some way of getting out to Carleton Place to pick it up. Ryan got leave on Thursday night this week so he and a buddy went and rented a van (which could barely hold the thing) and went out to pick it up. So I walked in the door from work on Friday to this beast of a TV taking up my entire livingroom. It's actually not a bad looking set it just looks huge in our house. We need to get a bigger house just to accomodate our tv set! Not only that but there's only one way of setting up our couch and tv due to the cable hookup so we are watching this thing literally six feet away from our faces. I can even see the whole screen in my scope of vision! I am getting used to it though. One of the first things I want to do is get Laura-Line over here to play SuperMario Bros 3 and play the Giant world. Mario is going to look huge!!!!!!!

Anyway so that's the news in the Macdonald/Jones household for this weekend. Not much else happening. Watched movies Friday, went out to the pub with some of Ryan's army dudes last night and lounged and ate ice cream today. Got my business cards from work already but they spelled my name with a big d and also used my maiden name so I have to reorder.Overallsatisfying weekend. Here's Ryan's army pic too!
